Pope Selects Ingham For Assembly In Rome

POPE Benedict XVI has hand-picked Wollongong's Bishop Peter Ingham to attend an international assembly in Rome next month.

Bishop Ingham is one of just three Australian bishops selected to attend the 12th General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops and said he was thrilled to be attending the important meeting.

"It's a great privilege, I'm really honoured," he said.

"I've only been to one before and that was in 1988, this one will be very different because it will be bishops from all over the world though, rather than just Oceania."

The Synod of Bishops meets every three years.
